Nunez Vocational and Technical School. In addition, the archives collects materials related to <a href="#special">St. Bernard history</a>. The Archives staff serves by appraising, collecting, preserving, organizing, and describing records and documents of significant historical and administrative value to the college.</font size=-1></p> <h2>Location, Hours, and Contacts</h2> <p>Nunez Archives is located on the second floor of the Nunez Community College Library in the Arts, Science and Technology Building. The public room of the Archives is open Monday through Thursday from 9 am to 1 pm. Researchers may make appointments outside of these hours with the <a href="mailto: bvaughn@nunez.edu">Archivist</a> (504-680-2609) or <a href="mailto: nradonovich@nunez.edu">Head of Technical Services</a>. It is recommended that researchers call for an appointment.</p> <h2>Services Available</h2> <UL> <LI>Nunez Archives is open for research by anyone, free of charge. <b>Research assistance</b> is provided in person and by telephone, FAX, mail and email.</LI> <LI><b>Finding aids</b> are available both at the library circulation desk and in the public room of the archives. The Frank Fernandez Collection has a comprehensive index with over 50,000 entries. The other materials have been listed in detailed finding aids including subject and box indexes. Special finding aids are created for topics covered by the <a href="history lecture.htm"> Nunez History Lecture Series.</a> </LI> <LI>Users are not allowed to make their own photocopies from material in the Archives. <b>Photocopies</b> of materials beyond copyright or for which the college holds the copyrights can be made for users at a cost of ten cents per sheet. A service charge of $1.50 and actual postage charges will be added if photocopies are to be mailed.</LI> <LI>Costs of other types of <b>reproduction</b> are available upon request.</LI> <LI>Users wishing to <b>publish materials</b> from the archive in any format must first obtain permission from the <a href="mailto: bvaughn@nunez.edu">Archivist</a> (504-680-2609). <a href="archives legal.htm">Click here for more information.</a> <LI><b>Donations</b> that fit the mission of the archives are encouraged. <a href="archives donor.htm">Click here for more information.</a> </UL> <h2>Collections</h2> <h3><a name="college">College Archives</h3> <p><font size=-1>The historical records of the college represent by far the repository s largest unpublished collection, over 200 linear feet. There are press clippings and photographic files, scrapbooks from St. Bernard Community College and other materials from predecessor organizations as well as publications, including catalogs. There are videos made by the college of various college functions such as culinary special events, Black History Day, and Nunez History Lecture Series. There are 600 oral history audio and video tapes with transcriptions documenting St. Bernard history created by students of various history and English classes. College financial,admissions and personnel records are not held by the archives; these stay with the departments that created them.</p> <h3><a name="special">Highlights of Special Collections</h3> <p>This list is provided to highlight the types of materials in the major collections of the Archives. More detailed information is available from the <a href="mailto: bvaughn@nunez.edu">Archivist</a> (504-680-2609).</p> <p><b>Los Isl½nos Heritage and Culture Society Collection.</b> This collection includes ninety-six oral history videotapes containing interviews by Frank Fernandez with Canary Island or Islenos descendants, conducted in Canarian Spanish; twelve oral history audiotapes of Islenos prepared in the 1970s; two 16 mm Spanish language films about the Canary Islands produced by the Canarian government. This along with the Frank Fernandez Collection form the heart of the Archives holdings.</p> <p><b>Frank Fernandez collection.</b> Mr. Fernandez was historian of St. Bernard Parish. His collection includes personal papers, maps, newspaper and magazine articles, program, and copies of historical materials; also the 1880-1929 minutes of the St. Bernard Police Jury; and several books written in Spanish about the early parishioners of St. Bernard, i.e. Language of the Islenos by John Lipski and Mississippi Delta Ethnographic Overview; and History of the Islenos by Gilbert Dan.</p> <p><b>Jeanne Taconi Collection.</b> This collection includes newspaper and magazine clippings describing historic home, plantations, and buildings throughout Louisiana, including several in St. Bernard Parish.</p> <p><b>Anthony Fernandez, Jr. Collection. </b> This includes mainly large photographic reproductions from the National Archives of plans including blueprints relating to Fort Proctor, Battery Bienvenue, and Tower Depre. </p> <p><b>Irvan and Louise Perez Collection. </b> This includes a videotape of Mosquitoes and High Water, with Mr. Perez narrating and performing his decimas and an audiotape of Spanish Decimas from St. Bernard parish, with singing and narration by Mr. Perez.</p> <p><b>Bernard Treadaway Collection.</b> This collection includes St. Bernard Historical Society Newsletter (1968-1983) and file folders on assorted topics in St. Bernard s history, such as Shell Beach during WWII, prehistoric St. Bernard, plantation histories, forts, railroads and ruins. Also are maps, photographs, newspaper articles, essays, and photocopies of previously published but hard-to-find materials.</p> <p><b>Jackson L. Molaison Collection. </b> This is a diverse collection of materials including copies of historical documents, such as the letter from Andrew Jackson to Col. Manusell White; photocopy of a 1912 publication, St. Maurice Church Fair; material on St. Joseph s convent, Corinne Plantation, early 1900s postcards and carnival memorabilia.</p> <p><b>Dennis Kaz Collection. </b> This includes an 1870 handbill from the Dorian-Picayune, videotapes of Hurricane Andrews in St. Bernard Parish and carnival memorabilia including St. Bernard Parish krewes.</p> <p><b>Artifacts. </b> The Archives also serves as a repository for a variety of artifacts donated to the college. These include several original arts works: Bernard L. Bryant & Associates, Inc. donated a series of six Salvador Dali engravings entitled  Conquest of Cosmos II ; Stanley Beck donated oil paintings and original drawings of Kaiser Aluminum entitled,  Charging the Furnace and  Pouring Sows . Clarence R. Duplessis donated a circular, solid aluminum award given to a winning team at Kaiser Aluminum Company, a former major business in St. Bernard Parish. Jules Tucker, a former college electrical instructor, donated several African artifacts including an ebony bust and two bronze elephants.
