Admissions and
Financial Aid
What do I
need to do to enroll at Nunez?
Complete an
application for admissions by
Clicking Here, and pay the $10 application fee
(non-refundable); submit immunization records, and ACT
scores (if taken within the last three years). If you
graduated from a Louisiana high school since 2003, you don’t
need to submit your high school transcripts. We’ll get it
for you after we receive your application for admissions.
If you graduated before 2003 or graduated from a
non-Louisiana public high school, you must have your high
school send us your official transcripts. If you have a GED,
you must submit a copy of your diploma.
If you’re
transferring from another college, you must have official
transcripts from that college sent to the Admissions Office.
If you’re a first time student without ACT scores, you need
to take the placement test. Contact the Admissions Office to
schedule the test. Call 1-877-453-2721 (Department of
Education) to get a copy of your GED.
See page
16-23 of the 2012-13 catalog.
Do
I need my immunization record to enroll?
Students
born after 1956 need to submit an immunization record as required by
the Louisiana Legislature.
See page 17
of the 2012-13 catalog.
I
attended another college when I graduated from high school
almost 10 years ago. Do I need those transcripts if I had
bad grades or didn’t earn any credit?
Students
need official transcripts from ALL accredited schools
attended since high school/GED. Failure to disclose any
school attended can result in dismissal.
See page
19-21
of the 2012-13 catalog.
Will
those grades that I earned at another school affect my grade
point average?
All
grades are added to the Nunez record and are calculated in
the cumulative (overall) grade point average. See pages
60-67 of the 2009-10 catalog.
See page 19-21 of
the 2012-13 catalog.
How do I
get services from the ADA office?
Students
must submit documentation of a qualified disability to the
Americans with Disabilities (ADA) Coordinator the semester
prior to enrolling. Services are provided accordingly.
See page 18
of the 2012-13 catalog.
What is a grade point and how do I calculate my average?
Quality
points are assigned to each grade earned (A=4, B=3, C=2,
D=1, F=0) and then multiplied by the number of credit hours
for each course. For example, an A in a three credit hour
course would be 12 quality points (4 X 3=12). To calculate a
GPA, add the number of quality points and divide by the
credits attempted. The resulting number is the grade point
average.
See page 65 of
the 2012-13 catalog.
If
I was suspended from another college can I attend Nunez?
Nunez
honors suspensions from other colleges. Students must
submit a letter of appeal to the Vice Chancellor for
Academic Affairs for approval to attend if they were
suspended from another college and limited to selected
courses. Students must also get permission from the
suspending institution prior to enrollment at Nunez.
See pages
19 and 49 of the 2012-13 catalog.
What
is Selective Service (for males) and must I register with
them?
Males
between the ages of 18-25 must provide documentation that
they have registered with Selective Service, as required by
law. They will not be admitted to Nunez without such proof.
See page 18
of the 2012-13 catalog.
Do I
need to be full-time to get financial aid?
No,
students may be enrolled in as few as three hours for a PELL
grant and six hours for a loan. Other forms of financial
aid, such as scholarships and TOPS, may require full-time
status.
See pages
43-54 of the 2012-13 catalog.
What
documents do I need to apply for financial aid?
Independent
students need their previous year tax returns and W-2
forms. Dependent students need their own, as well as their
parents', previous year tax returns and W-2 forms. A Free
Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) must also be
completed.
See pages
45-46 of the 2012-13 catalog.
How
will my old grades that I earned at another college affect
my financial aid at Nunez?
If the
previously earned credit lowers the overall grade point
average to probation level (usually below a 2.0), students
may lose their eligibility for financial aid.
See pages 47-49 of the 2012-13 catalog.

What is the
repeat/delete policy?

(with a limit of three attempts per course) and have the D
or F grades not calculated in your grade point average.
After you successfully repeat the course, go the Registrar’s
Office and ask for the policy to be applied to your record.
