Statement from Nunez Regarding House Bill 564

"Due to the recent controversial dialog surrounding Louisiana House Bill 564 following an April 27 hearing in the House Education Committee, I stand united with other appointed and elected officials in saying that the divisive comments made are not reflective of our college, our community, or its leaders.

Nunez Community College is committed to academic truth and accountability, and we reaffirm our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. We have a moral obligation and responsibility to denounce discrimination and racism both inside and outside of our classrooms.

We must never lose sight of the fact that Nunez welcomes and serves individuals from all races, ethnicities, religions, socioeconomic statuses, genders, and sexual orientations. We promote fostering a culture of mutual respect in our classrooms and across our campus. It is incumbent upon us to make a positive difference and to actively address educational inequality and bias openly and candidly.

In addition to our commitment to academic honesty, Nunez is committed to recognizing, respecting, and reflecting the diversity of our student body, our faculty and staff, and our St. Bernard Parish community."
