Position Summary
Adult Education Instructors provide instructional services to adults and youths who are beyond high school age, and lack basic skills in reading, writing, and mathematics. The purpose is to increase the students' educational functioning levels with preparation to obtain their high school equivalency diploma (HiSET) and transition into postsecondary education or the workforce.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • 40% Responsible for teaching adult education classes using instructional methods geared towards the adult learner in a classroom setting.
  • 30% Plan lessons and curriculum based on the learning needs of culturally diverse and multi-skill level students which prepare students to pass the high school equivalency tests and/or enhance basic education skills.
  • 10% Delivers whole group, small group, and individualized instruction to students, using a variety of instructional methods, materials, and techniques.
  • 5% Assure that students who qualify are pre- and post-tested as needed. Assess program students using the TABE test as dictated by Adult Education Program policy.
  • 5% Keep daily attendance records and progress reports. Maintain accurate, complete, and up- to-date records.
  • 10% Participate and manage registration, testing, and scheduling events.

Education and Qualifications

  • High School Diploma
  • 21 Years of Age

Preferred Education and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Information Sciences, or field closely related to assessment.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  •  Effective classroom management, including maintaining a positive learning environment. Leadership.
  • Mentoring.
  • Records Management.
  • Ability to effectively handle conflict productively in a professional situation.
  • Knowledge and commitment to institutional mission and values and the ability to work with stakeholders across the college to achieve and uphold those.

Preferred Experience

  • Two years of related work experience involving lesson planning and implementation, small and large group instruction, and classroom management.

Physical Demands: When Applicable

  • Ability to view a computer screen for long periods of time.
  • Ability to operate a computer and standard office equipment.
  • Ability to carry <25 lbs., stand, sit, reach, bend, climb, reach and push/pull.
