Position: Full-Time Instructor—Wind Energy Technology
Department: Career and Technical Education
Reports to: Dean of Instruction

Position Summary
Nunez Community College is seeking a fulltime instructor for the Sustainable Energy Career Academy (SECA), which aims to build a workforce in support of Louisiana’s burgeoning offshore wind energy sector by offering an Associate of Applied Science degree in Wind Energy Technology, a Career and Technical Certificate in Offshore Safety and Survival, and a Technical Diploma in Wind Turbine Mechanics and Maintenance.

The SECA Instructor will plan, support, and deliver instruction of Global Wind Organization- certified (GWO) courses in safety and first aid, and in the mechanical and electrical components of wind turbine generators to prepare students for entry-level employment as wind turbine technicians. The instructor will also contribute to curriculum development, program assessment, and student advisement activities.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide instruction in both face-to-face and online classes, including preparing and delivering GWO curricula and supporting and maintaining a positive learning environment
  • Foster student learning, development, and workplace readiness through quality instruction and mentoring/advising activities
  • Participate in assessment at the program, departmental, and college level for ongoing improvement and in relation to special tasks or projects
  • Uphold GWO standards in all instruction and maintain ongoing familiarization with and application of these standards as they are updated and expanded
  • Assist Program Chair with scheduling of SECA courses
  • Other duties as assigned by the Dean of Instruction or Vice Chancellor for Education, Training, and Student Success

Minimum Qualifications

Required Education

  • Technical Diploma, Associate Degree, or higher in Wind Energy and Turbine Technology or a closely related field

or

  •  A high school diploma with at least six (6) years of professional experience in offshore and/or onshore wind energy production or a closely related field and a willingness to undergo GWO instructor qualification training

Required Experience

  • At least two (2) years of professional experience in offshore and/or onshore wind energy production or a closely related field

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of GWO curricula and the ability to teach the curricula effectively or a willingness to undergo GWO instructor qualification training
  • The ability to correctly assess student knowledge, skills, and abilities in applying GWO standards and the ability to give constructive feedback and individualized coaching towards achieving student learning objectives
  • Effective classroom management skills, including maintaining a positive learning environment
  • A willingness to assist in advancing both credit and noncredit training options for students
  • The ability to manage and maintain accurate student records
  • Knowledge and commitment to institutional mission and values and the ability to work with stakeholders across the college and with industry partners to achieve and uphold them

Preferred Qualifications

  • A minimum of 100 hours of vocational teaching experience per GWO prerequisite guidelines for instructor qualification
  • Prior community college teaching experience
  • Extensive knowledge of GWO curricula and the ability to teach the curricula effectively
  • Possess active, relevant GWO certifications, including, but not limited to, Basic Safety Training, Advanced Rescue Training, and Basic Technical Training
  • A training record in the Wind Energy Database (WINDA) following prior successful completion of GWO training modules
  • Demonstrated ability to cultivate partnerships with relevant industry leaders and advisory committees
  • Demonstrated ability to develop a variety of effective teaching techniques and assessment methods
  • Ability to promote the use of instructional technology in curriculum delivery
  • Ability to teach evening classes
