Position: Heavy Equipment/Construction Instructor - FT Department
Department: Education, Training and Student Success
Reports To: Director of Workforce Development

Position Summary
The Heavy Equipment/Construction Instructor will be responsible for coordinating, managing, and teaching courses directly related to heavy equipment and safety training. Position will include curriculum instruction through NCCER, operation and maintenance of equipment, operation and maintenance of mobile lab and assist with Will To Skill various training.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Comply with all requirements of the NCCER curriculum for certification including being certified as an NCCER Heavy Equipment instructor, Proctor and Performance Evaluator.
  • Be willing to acquire certifications and licenses required for instruction/training and maintaining current status such as CDL-Class A, NCCER Certifications, Lift Equipment, etc.
  • Coordinate and deliver instruction for Heavy Equipment operations such as Excavator, Dozer, Front End Loader, Dump Truck, Skid Steer and Light Equipment such as Forklift, Telescopic Extended Forklift, Aeriel Lift, and Scissor Lift.
  • Train students in all aspects of proper safety techniques and PPE according to industry standards.
  • Be familiar with industry standards of testing, certifications, and licensing requirements.
  • Keep accurate records of attendance and assessments
  • Be available for evening and weekend instructions if needed.
  • Responsible for maintenance of equipment for proper usage and keeping records of repairs.
  • Assist Nunez staff and faculty throughout Nunez CC, specifically with operations of the Mobile Lab at campus and off-campus events and Will To Skill.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Journeyman level in heavy equipment/construction.
  • 5-year work experience in industry.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associates/Journey-Level Work.
  • Field of Study: Heavy Equipment and Construction.
  • CDL- Class A, NCCER Instruction.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Equipment experience with Dozer, Excavator, Skid-Steer, Forklift, Aerial Lift, Scissor Lift.
  • Licensing to operate Haul Truck and Mobile Lab.
  • NCCER Einstruction Certification in Heavy Equipment.
  • Knowledge of Trenching and Excavation.
  • Ability to teach and train students.

Physical Demands: When Applicable

  • Ability to work in excess of 40 hours a week, which may include nights and weekends.
  • Ability to operate a computer and standard office equipment.
  • Ability to carry <100 lbs., stand, sit, reach, bend, climb, crawl, drive, squatting/kneeling, twist, work above shoulder, reach, and push/pull.

Preferred Experience

  • Equipment experience with Dozer, Excavator, Skid Steer, Forklift, Aerial Lift, Scissor Lift, Telehandler. Licensing requirement to operate Haul Truck and Mobile Lab (CDL-Class A). NCCER Instruction Certification in Heavy Equipment. Knowledge of Trenching and Excavation and other related training to heavy equipment. Ability to teach and train students Record keeping including attendance and recording students' certifications.
