Nunez Shines at State Conference

Nunez Community College was shining bright during the recent Louisiana Technical and Community College System State Conference held September 26-28, 2018 at the Hilton Riverside in New Orleans.

Faculty, staff and students from Louisiana's twelve community and technical colleges gather annually to share best practices and participate in professional development. The annual meeting is also a time to celebrate many successes throughout the state. Nunez was in the spotlight multiple times during the three days.

  • Leslie Bean, Paramedic student from New Orleans, was awarded the Dow Chemical "I Am Louisiana's Future Scholarship". She received a $1,500 Award. Leslie was the sole recipient of this honor in the entire state.
  • Dr. Monty Sullivan, LCTCS President and Dr. Tina Tinney, Nunez chancellor awarded Nunez faculty and staff members for their extraordinary contributions to the college. Those receiving awards included David Ballero - Outstanding Support Staff, Brittney Barras - Outstanding Professional Staff, Dr. Elsa Winsor - Distinguished Retiree, Dr. Tinney, Katherine Lemoine - Outstanding Faculty.
  • Katherine Lemoine received the inaugural President's Excellence in Teaching Award. Katherine was selected from all of the nominees throughout the state. She received a $5,000 stipend.
  • Team Nunez participated in the LCTCS Bowling Tournament. Proceeds from the tournament benefitted the Capital Area United Way. 10 teams participated and Nunez brought home THIRD PLACE!
