Nunez Community College was proud to virtually present Methodist Health System Foundation with the college’s annual Spirit of Nunez Community Partner Award during Convocation 2020.

Wendy Beron, president and CEO of MHSF, accepted the award via teleconference during Nunez’s virtual convocation, which took place Aug. 12-14. Over the course of the multi-day program, Nunez Chancellor Dr. Tina Tinney welcomed back faculty and staff for the beginning of the 2020-21 academic year and highlighted the special role MHSF has played on Nunez’s campus. Nunez is one of only two Louisiana Community and Technical College System (LCTCS) colleges to offer an on-campus health center.

As the global coronavirus pandemic made its way to Louisiana and St. Bernard Parish at the end of the 2019-20 academic year, MHSF provided crucial physical and mental health support for Nunez students and employees.

Nunez’s other annual Spirit of Nunez Award, the Chancellor’s Vision Award, also honored a key healthcare ally. Kim Keene, CEO of St. Bernard Parish Hospital, will be the subject of a future story that highlights the depth of her devotion to Nunez’s mission of affordable higher education.

As convocation progressed, the majority of the virtual presentations focused on virtual instruction. Social distancing has made in-depth computer literacy mandatory for educators, and Nunez is taking every opportunity to prepare and equip its employees for that reality.

Convocation later shifted its focus from the present and the future to recognize history and consistency. The college shone a well-deserved spotlight on the following team members celebrating milestones at the college:
