Nunez Offers Drone Classes in August

Drone Classes at Nunez

Nunez Community College will offer two drone classes at its Chalmette campus starting in August.

The $350 courses will prepare students for the FAA’s Part 107 certified drone pilot license exam while learning to fly two different drones: the DJI Mavic 3 and the LaTrax Alias.

The first class will meet on Tuesday evenings from 5:30-8:30 p.m. from Aug. 16-Oct. 4. The second class will meet on Saturday mornings from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. from Aug. 20-Oct. 8.

Registration for both classes is open now at Nunez.edu/STEAM.

STEAM Director Julie Rexford said the drone classes are already filling quickly, but more classes are likely to follow shortly to help students add another job skill.

“Various industries such as electrical, insurance, disaster relief, emergency response and industrial plants are quickly realizing the value of having a licensed drone operator on staff,” said Rexford. “Drones can be used to do everything from inspections to data collection, giving companies new information in regard to their day-to-day operations.”
