New Features Added to Nunez Trunk or Treat Lineup for Oct. 24

Nunez Trunk or Treat Parking Map

Parking for Nunez’s Trunk or Treat on Oct. 24 will be available at Arlene Meraux Elementary School. Two busses will serve as shuttles transporting guests between the Nunez campus and the Arlene Meraux campus every 15 minutes. Limited parking will also be available on the Nunez campus in the PAC and Building B parking lots. Nunez and the St. Bernard Parish Sheriff’s Office are asking guests to refrain from parking across Paris Road from Nunez and crossing on foot.

Thousands of friends and neighbors attended Nunez Community College’s Trunk or Treat last October. Now the event is set to make its return with even more activities for St. Bernard and the surrounding communities.

Nunez Trunk or Treat 2023 is set for Oct. 24 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the AST Building parking lot on the Nunez campus. In addition to a trunk section optimized to aid the flow of foot traffic through the parking lot, a second area has been added to include activity tables, where guests can linger to play games or chat with the participants tending the tables.

“Last year’s event was a huge success and we were so excited to welcome the community to our campus. We are glad we are able to host this event again and hope to see even more student and community members this year,” said Natalie Haniford, Nunez Student Success Coordinator and chair of the Trunk or Treat Committee.

A third area will house the St. Bernard Redfish Festival’s Pumpkin Patch, where 2,000 pumpkins will be handed out free of charge, one pumpkin per child.

Like last year, Nunez will serve free hotdogs and water while supplies last.

Parking

Parking has also been expanded to prevent traffic from backing up on Paris Road, as well as to discourage pedestrians parking across Paris Road from Nunez and crossing on foot. This year the St. Bernard Parish School Board has granted permission for cars to park at Arlene Meraux Elementary School, just north of Nunez, with two shuttle busses set to transport guests back and forth from Nunez to Arlene Meraux every 15 minutes.

Guests parking at Nunez are asked to use the PAC (Physical Activity Center) lot in the center of the Nunez campus, and the Building B lot located at the back of campus. Both lots can be accessed from West Liberaux Street. Guests using those lots are asked to access West Liberaux from Patricia Street/West Genie Street to the south of campus, as the St. Bernard Parish Sheriff’s Office will have both West Magnolia Drive and West Liberaux Street between Paris Road and Montesquieu Street closed to traffic.

Other activities planned for Trunk or Treat 2023 include both child and adult costume contests, pictures with Bernard the Nunez Pelican, and family-friendly music. This event is free and open to the community.
