The Nunez chapter of Gamma Beta Phi routinely runs public service projects such as Thanksgiving food drives, Christmas toy drives and Easter basket drives. These efforts most often benefit the Family Violence Program of St. Bernard.
The Nunez chapter has earned the Exemplary Chapter Award from Gamma Beta Phi for the past four consecutive years. It was one of just 14 chapters among all two-year and four-year institutions in the country to win the award in 2024. In fact, the Nunez chapter of Gamma Beta Phi has earned either Exemplary or Distinguished Designation from the national organization every year since 2007.
“Our Gamma Beta Phi chapter performs its service mission without fail each and every semester. Its unwavering commitment to helping our community has placed the Nunez name alongside the most distinguished institutions of higher learning across the country,” said Dr. April Lavergne, Dean of Strategic Enrollment Management and Student Success and Co-Advisor for Gamma Beta Phi at Nunez. “Our chapter’s annual Easter basket and Christmas toy drives for the Family Violence Program of St. Bernard provide a ray of light to children and families enduring some of the darkest times of their lives. Our Gamma Beta Phi students remind those children that they have not been forgotten, and that they deserve to enjoy these holidays along with everyone else.”
Membership in Gamma Beta Phi requires students to maintain a 3.2 GPA while taking at least 12 credit hours per semester.
