The Nunez Community College Practical Nursing Class of Fall 2025 held its Pinning Ceremony Dec. 16 at the Sigur Center in Chalmette.
Thirty-two Nunez Community College Practical Nursing graduates took the stage Dec. 16 at the Sigur Center in Chalmette for the Fall 2025 Pinning Ceremony.
The ceremony was moved to the Sigur Center from the Nunez Auditorium to accommodate the guests of another large group of Nunez nurses. A recent Pinning Ceremony was moved to a venue in Slidell for the same reason.
“I’m extremely proud of our recent graduates and their success and wish them the best of luck in their future endeavors,” said Don Mieger, Dean of Nursing and Allied Health. “The increasing size of our recent graduating classes reflects the excellent work being done by our Practical Nursing faculty.”
Hundreds of family, friends, faculty and staff filled the floor and the balcony at the civic center to congratulate the new nurses. Nursing faculty and Nunez administration joined graduates on the stage to present each graduate with their nursing pin and hand out awards to exceptional students. In addition to comments from Mieger serving as emcee, graduates received words of encouragement from Dr. Tina Tinney, Nunez Chancellor, and Dr. Cherié Kay LaRocca, Nunez Provost. Graduate Ayanna Omoruyi summarized her classes’ journey and thanked individual instructors as the featured student speaker.
The Student Nursing Association Award, presented to the member with the most volunteer points, went to Brittany Rogers. The award for Highest GPA in the graduating class went to Yazzmine Wallace-Clark. The Spirit Award was presented to Brittany Cadogan. And the Florence Nightingale Award, given to the student who most embodies the spirit of the mother of modern nursing, went to Ashley Allen.
