Nunez Instructor Jesús Melendez leads a forklift certification class on the Nunez campus. Forklift is one of 8 equipment certifications and five workplace certifications available through Nunez’s six-week Heavy Equipment program.
Students can earn valuable equipment certifications and various workforce certifications during Nunez Community College’s six-week Heavy Equipment course.
Classes begin April 20 and run through May 26. Students will attend class on the Nunez campus in Chalmette Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Cost is $5,500. Financial aid may be available through the MJ Foster Promise Program.
Completers will be certified to operate forklifts, telehandlers, aerial and scissor lifts, skid steers, bulldozers, excavators and front payloaders.
In addition to the equipment training, completers will also earn certificates in NCCER Core, NCCER Heavy Equipment Level I, OSHA-10, CPR through the American Heart Association, and Confined Space training.
“Students who complete this program will significantly improve their job prospects and their potential value at any construction-based work site,” said Nunez Workforce Director Brian Gibson.
