Summary:

The Director of Adult Education/WorkReady U provides instruction, leadership, strategic direction and management for the effective administration of the Nunez Community College WorkReady U / Adult Education Program.  The position is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the program.  Nunez Community College provides a comprehensive WorkReady U program in St. Bernard Parish.  In addition, we provide HiSET prep, ESL classes, co-enrollment and workforce preparation to students 16 years of age or older.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead instructor in all subjects (Language, Reading, Math, Science & Social Studies).
  • Write competitive RFP and Continuation grants to secure funding for program.
  • Responsible for organizational budget creation and management of E-grants.
  • Create ESL Pilot program.
  • Develop, implement and enforce organizational strategies, policies and practices.
  • Analyze data to ensure progress and attainment of enrollment and EFL benchmarks.
  • Ensure compliance with both federal and state rules and regulations, budget maintenance, staffing and Adult Education instructional services outlined in the various grants.
  • Oversee testing services to include HiSET testing.
  • Oversee the maintenance and upkeep of time and effort certifications.
  • Plan, implement and monitor existing and new programs developed and mandated by state and federal legislation. (ie. Integrated Education and Training (IET).
  • Oversee curriculum development and revisions; keep abreast of new developments by serving on state and regional committees, membership in professional organizations and attendance at conferences; disseminate findings to adult education faculty and staff.
  • Hire and orient new Adult Education faculty and staff.
  • Supervise Adult Education faculty and staff.
  • Perform evaluation of Adult Education staff.
  • Review existing and long-range programs, plans and policies in an effort to increase and sustain program capacity.
  • Increase levels of employee competencies by developing and overseeing in-service training programs.
  • Assure that required personnel forms and records are generated and maintained for the department in an effort to increase accuracy and transparency at all levels.
  • Directs the development and execution of all staffing requests in order to maintain continual and timely availability of Adult Education faculty and staff.
  • Interview and counsel employees regarding employment performance to ensure and maintain a stable work environment.
  • Document and communicate all employee discipline issues.
  • Work closely with LCTCS staff on WorkReady U and Adult Education related initiatives that support the college and Our Louisiana 2020 Plan.
  • Complete the WorkReady U Instructor’s Certification Course if not already certified.
  • Create and participate in recruitment activities.
  • Market the program to sustain growth, including social media and website updates.
  • Serve on Nunez CC and LCTCS committees.
  • Advocate Nunez’s mission to faculty, staff, students and other stakeholders.
  • Ensure a positive environment for teaching and learning.
  • Promote a team effort within the WorkReady U Department.
  • Attend Nunez Community College Sponsored events.
  • Create Memorandum of Understandings between Nunez Community College and other community agencies.
  • Work with the required partners to meet the requirements of WIOA legislation.
  • Certify employee payroll on a bi-weekly basis.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisor or Chancellor.

QUALIFICATIONS:  
Required: Bachelor’s degree in Adult and Continuing Education, Education, Management, Communications, or a related field from a nationally or regionally accredited college or university with four years or the equivalent of full-time work experience in the field.

  1. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Must be able to communicate effectively in both written and verbal form.  Must have the ability to follow instructions and prepare accurate paperwork.  Must maintain confidentiality of work related information and materials. Comprehensive knowledge of standard office practices, procedures, equipment, and techniques; knowledge of adult learning techniques.  Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume; ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.  Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists; ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  2. Computer Skills: Personal Computer and other equipment associated with a general office environment (copier, telephone, fax, etc.).
  3. Software Used: Experience with and knowledge of computer operation; knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.), and database applications.
