The group will appear at Nunez ahead of its performances at both days of the 50th Annual Los Isleños Heritage and Cultural Society Fiesta, March 7-8 at the Los Isleños Museum Complex at 1357 Bayou Road in St. Bernard Parish.
Both days of the Los Isleños Fiesta will begin at 11 a.m. and last into the evening. Entrance to the Fiesta is $5. Children 12 and under are admitted free. For more information visit losislenos.org.
The music and dance style performed by San Borondón is known as Tajaraste, which dates back to the 16th century in the Canary Islands. Period-appropriate instruments will provide a percussion-driven backdrop to accompany the dancers, who perform traditional dances in period clothing.
The Isleño community has been a strong presence in St. Bernard Parish and southeast Louisiana since the late 1700s. Nunez partnered with the Los Isleños Heritage and Cultural Society in 2025 to open the Los Isleños Historical Archive on the second floor of the Nunez Library. The collection is comprised of hundreds of artifacts, photos, video recordings and oral histories donated by Frank M. Fernandez Jr., former St. Bernard Parish Historian.
