Groups, families, couples and individuals are invited to begin their path to a high-wage, high-demand career during Pelican Preview Night.

On March 25, from 5 p.m.-7 p.m., Nunez instructors and staff will lead tours across campus and provide information about academic and career-technical programs. Guests can sign up for tours now at Nunez.edu.

“Pelican Preview Night is a chance for two-way, in-person communication between potential students and Nunez’s faculty and staff. We put everything we have to offer as a college on display, and students can take that in and get their questions and concerns answered on the spot,” said Dr. April Lavergne, Dean of Strategic Enrollment Management and Student Success. “Our programs are designed to equip students with the skills that will get them hired. Pelican Preview Night provides students with the details they need to choose the program where they can be most successful.”

Nunez offers an impressive lineup of programs in technology-forward fields like Aerospace Manufacturing, Coastal Studies and Geographic Information Systems, Cybersecurity, Instrumentation, Process Technology and Wind Energy. The college also offers foundational, in-demand such as Culinary Arts, Electrical Construction, Emergency Medical Services, Practical Nursing, Teaching and Welding.

Nunez also offers transferable credits for students to advance to the universities across the state following their time in Chalmette. Classes are offered at various times, such as daytime and evening courses, and via multiple modalities, such as on-campus or online, to provide students with as much flexibility as possible. Career-technical programs place a strong emphasis on familiarizing students with their industry, inviting industry leaders to campus to meet with students and facilitating internships with partner organizations.

Potential students who are unable to attend Pelican Preview Night are encouraged to contact Nunez’s Student Success Team by visiting the Student Success Center in the AST Building. Contact info for the Success Team can also be found at Nunez.edu/Advising.

Pelican Preview Night is one event in a series Nunez will host in observance of Community College Week, which the Louisiana Career and Technical College System hosts each spring.

For Community College Week 2026, Nunez will host the following

March 23 – Manufacturing Day

  • Sponsored by our partners at Chevron, visiting high school students will tour our Process Technology facilities and hear from faculty about educational opportunities at Nunez and workforce opportunities in the oil and gas field.

March 24 – Tie a Tie Professional Dress Event

  • The Nunez Student Success Team will host a professional dress etiquette event that communicates workplace expectations and practical tips for looking the part.

March 26 – Pelican Care Corner Grand Opening

  • The Pelican Pantry and Career Closet will officially combine to form the Care Corner, a one-stop resource where Nunez students, faculty and staff can pick up free shelf-stable food items and basic home goods, and students have access to free professional dress clothing for job interviews and work-wear.

March 26/27 – Food Fight Deadline/Winner Announcement

  • Nunez takes on Delgado Community College for a good cause. Both colleges will host food drives to stock their respective pantries. When the Pelican Baseball team meets the Dolphins on Delgado’s field March 27, the college with the highest percentage of donations relative to its student enrollment will be crowned the Food Fight Champion. The community is invited to get involved. Please drop donations at the Nunez Student Success Center in the AST Building.

While not an official Community College Week event, the Nunez chapter of Gamma Beta Phi Honor Society is also accepting donations of candy and new toys to fill Easter Baskets for children in the Family Violence Program of St. Bernard. Those donations can be dropped on the tables in the Nunez Administration Building lobby through April 1.
