Position:  Dean of Nursing and Allied Health

Department:  Academic Affairs

Reports to:  Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs

Job Summary: The Dean of Nursing and Allied Health provides educational management and leadership for programs in Nursing and Allied Health. This is a 12-month administrative position that reports to the Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Recommends, reviews and promulgates policies for the practical nursing program and coordinates policy and procedures for other allied health programs with appropriate institutional departments to ensure compliance. Serves as Practical Nursing Program Coordinator as per the guidelines of the Louisiana State Board of Practical Nurse Examiners for the Practical Nursing program in accordance with LPNE board. 25%
  • Provides leadership and direction for all educational activities in the division, including scheduling, program and course development, initiatives, etc. 25%
  • Participates as a member of the academic council and as an ex officio member of the curriculum committee. 5%
  • Actively participates in interview and selection processes for new full-time and adjunct Nursing & Allied Health faculty. 5%
  • Mentors and evaluates performance of division faculty and provides informational workshops and access to training for faculty as needed. 10%
  • Supports a positive environment for teaching and learning & advocates for faculty, students, staff and various programs. 10%
  • With program managers and department chairs supports program assessment to ensure quality in content and instruction at all sites and all modalities. 10%
  • May assume teaching responsibilities as needed. 5%
  • Other duties as assigned. 5%

Minimum Qualifications:
An applicant must have an unencumbered license as a registered nurse with a minimum of three years of nursing experience in Louisiana. At least one of the three years must have been as a medical-surgical hospital staff nurse providing direct patient care.  An applicant must have practiced as a nurse for a minimum of six full-time months during the three years immediately preceding application.  A master's degree and teaching experience are required.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to work 40 hours a week, which may include nights and weekends.
  • Ability to view a computer screen for long periods of time.
  • Ability to function in a high-pressure, stressful environment and meet stringent deadlines.
  • Ability to operate a computer and standard office equipment.
  • Ability to carry <25 lbs., stand, sit, reach, bend, and climb.
