Position: Carpentry Instructor - Adjunct
Department: Workforce Development
Reports To: Director of Workforce Development

Position Summary
The Carpentry Instructor will be instructing students in the various skills needed in the carpentry field including safety, use of various tools, reading of construction drawings, and construction.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare lessons designed to teach students the safety, tools and techniques needed in the carpentry field.
  • Be able to teach students how to use the various tools needed in carpentry.
  • Be able to teach students the safety and techniques needed to be a competent carpenter.
  • Be able to assess students’ progress in the development of knowledge and skills.
  • Keep accurate records of attendance and assessments.
  • Comply with all requirements of the NCCER curriculum for certification.
  • Be able to teach at night and on weekends.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Journeyman level in carpentry.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate’s Degree in Construction.
  • NCCER Certified Instructor in Carpentry.
  • Licensed Contractor.
  • Ability to operate a CNC Router and Laser Cutter.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to operate various carpentry and woodworking tools.
  • Ability to teach others how to operate safety use and operate various carpentry and woodworking tools.
  • Ability to teach others the knowledge needed to pass the NCCER assessments in carpentry to obtain certification.
  • Must have good oral and written communication skills.

Physical Demands: When Applicable

  • Ability to work in excess of 40 hours a week, which may include nights and weekends.
  • Ability to operate a computer and standard office equipment.
  • Ability to carry <25 lbs., stand, sit, reach, bend, climb, reach and push/pull.
