History Lecture Series - Uma' Seyah: I Am Houma
Colleen Billiot, a member of the United Houma Nation, tells the story of the Houma Tribe in St. Bernard Parish and Louisiana.
The History Lecture Series takes place in the Nunez Auditorium. The event begins at 6:30pm with a wine and cheese reception in the lobby. The lecture will follow from 7-8pm.
This program is free and open to the community. The lecture will be available to view on the Nunez YouTube page shortly following the event.
Billiot is co-founder of the Houma Language Project, an apprentice basket weaver and storyteller, and a tribal history enthusiast. Her focus is on strengthening intra- and inter-tribal community ties by preserving and restoring traditional ways. She was also recently certified as an instructor of Basic Physical Defense with the goal of sharing this knowledge with indigenous womxn and girls.
