Position: Dean of Nursing
Department: Nursing and Allied Health
Reports to: Vice Chancellor of Education, Training and Student Success
Position Summary
The Dean of Nursing and Allied Health provides innovative vision and leadership for Nursing and Allied Health while cultivating a caring learning environment centered on student success; plans, organizes, administers and evaluates programs, projects, and activities of the division; supervises and evaluates faculty and staff; fosters continuous development of faculty and staff; represents divisional faculty at administrative level and communicates administrative policy to faculty and staff. The Dean may have limited teaching duties. This will be a twelve-month exempt position, which carries academic rank.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Recommends, reviews, and promulgates policies and procedures for the Practical Nursing and all Allied Health programs with appropriate institutional departments to ensure compliance.
- Provides leadership and direction for all educational activities in the division, including scheduling, managing faculty and staff, program and course development, initiatives, etc.
- Collaborates with Program Chairs in supporting program assessment to ensure quality in content and instruction at all sites and all modalities, including high school dual enrollment sites.
- Collaborates with Dean of Strategic Enrollment and Student Success to develop clear advising processes and course sequencing for students. Key member of the College’s Enrollment Management team and implements strategies to support enrollment management priorities.
- Participates as a member of College committees including but not limited to: Academic Council and as an ex officio member of the Curriculum Committee.
- Mentors and evaluates performance of division faculty and provides informational workshops and access to training for faculty as needed.
- Supports a positive environment for teaching and learning & advocates for faculty, students, staff, and various programs.
- Actively participates in interview and selection processes for new full-time and adjunct Nursing & Allied Health faculty and staff.
- Perform other duties and special responsibilities from the Vice Chancellor for Education, Training and Student Success, or Chancellor, as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Required Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or Allied Health related field.
Required Experience
- One (1) year of teaching experience in higher education.
Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Knowledge of learning principles for adult education, including nursing curriculum development, health science, administration, and evaluation.
- Thorough understanding and commitment to the mission and values of Nunez Community College.
- Competence in oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks.
- Ability to manage time effectively and meet deadlines.
- Independent decision making.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion.
- Ability to use sound judgement when dealing with sensitive and/or ambiguous issues.

- Ability to use diplomacy when interacting with all levels of personnel.
Preferred Qualifications
Education/Licensure
- Master’s Degree in Nursing or Allied Health related field.
- RN
Experience
- Teaching experience in a community college setting.
- At least three years of nursing experience in Louisiana.
- At least one of the three years must have been as a medical-surgical hospital staff nurse providing direct patient care.
- Have practiced as a nurse for a minimum of six full-time months during the three years immediately preceding application.
