Position: Director of Financial Aid and Student Financial Resources
Division: Education, Training, and Student Success
Reports to: Dean of Strategic Enrollment Management and Student Success, and Vice Chancellor of Education, Training, and Student Success

Position Summary:
The Director of Financial Aid and Student Financial Resources is responsible for overseeing the College's financial aid programs and student financial support resources.  This includes assisting students and families with financial aid options and processing federal, state and institutional financial aid applications in accordance with federal, state and college regulations. In addition, the Director is responsible for submitting federal and state reporting regulations in a timely manner. The Director also oversees Veterans and military benefits programs.

EDUCATION:
Required:

  • Earned Master’s degree in Higher Education, Social Work or related field.
  • 5 years of experience in Higher Education, Social Work, or a related field.

Preferred:

  • Earned PhD in Higher Education, Social work of related field.
  • 8 years of experience in Financial Aid, Higher Education or a related field.

Duties:
Integrates efforts to maximize Financial Aid’s role in recruiting, enrolling, and retaining students. Collaborates with the Dean of Strategic Enrollment Management and Student Success in creating annual plans for the distribution of financial aid funds and scholarships, with an eye on maximizing tuition revenue, student persistence, meeting appropriate levels of need, while staying within budget.

Collaborates with the Dean of Strategic Enrollment Management and Student Success on how funds are awarded to new and returning students. Ensures that scholarships, grants, loans, work study and other financial aid are awarded to qualified students in a professional manner and that the financial aid office is working in concert with the goals and strategies of the office of enrollment management and the wider institution.

The Director has a hand in creating goals, working with the teams that manage predictive modeling of enrollment and scholarship awards. Creates and maintains a positive financial aid culture, rife with excellent customer service, accurate and timely transactions, and solid communication.

Supports and mentors professional and support staff. Provides for ongoing training and evaluations and provides constructive feedback and positive reinforcement as appropriate.

Creates a climate of inclusion and excellent communication for staff and those that interact with it Acts as the face of financial aid office at Nunez.

Attends events and maintains a visible position at the institution and the community. This may include speaking engagements, college-wide events, and occasional conference presentations.

Oversees creation and execution of an annual, comprehensive financial aid plan for the delivery of financial aid to a diverse undergraduate population.

Supervises staff in all financial aid unit ensuring regulatory compliance for federal and state financial aid, and working with other units to coordinate student employment program, study abroad, and oversight for endowed and restricted scholarships. Prepare for annual audits with the expectation of no material findings.

Maintains liaison with other college offices to assure that effective communication is preserved. Works with other offices to problem-solve and achieve mutually beneficial solutions. Responsible for working with the various campus leaders to develop strategies to maximize enrollment and retention of students through effective communication flow and outreach concerning education financing.

Increases effectiveness of multi-channel communications to students to improve the processing of financial aid, compliance, and efficacy of registration and budget processes.

Works with staff to maintain proper contact with private, state, and federal officials who supply funds for the benefit of Nunez students.

Responsible for making applications for funding and for submitting all required reports to said agencies.

Occasionally confers with applicants and parents regarding financing their education. Counsels students concerning academic progress, eligibility and procedures.

Provides supervision of the student appeals process. Works with staff to create and implement and maintain telecommunication and automation plans for the financial aid office; works to integrate these with the operations and plans of related offices.

Monitors national best-practices in financial aid and makes recommendations, as appropriate, to the Dean of Strategic Enrollment Management and Student Success. Works with staff to assure proper handling of all restricted or endowed scholarship funds.

Coordinates selection of recipients with the Office of Institutional Advancement and the College. Monitors expenditures of all institutional scholarship funds. Demonstrates an understanding of and commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.

Collaborates with the Director of Student Success to develop and maintain a comprehensive list of financial resources available to students, including but not limited to, Food Stamps, Housing Assistance, Institutional emergency awards, etc. That can be referenced by the Financial Aid Team and Student Success team in support of student success.


Additional Responsibilities:
Serves on Institutional and external committees as required and available. Works with the Orientation staff to plan and schedule information sessions to newly admitted students.
