Position: Information Technology (IT) Assistant

Position Summary
The Information Technology Assistant provides technical assistance to all faculty, staff, students and guests of Nunez Community College when required. As the technology needs of campus are quite vast, the IT Assistant stands to provide base level technical support and, and specialized technical support that will aid campus personnel in becoming successful in their technology related tasks.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides Audio Video Support for on campus events.
  • Installs and configures designated hardware, software and peripherals.
  • Identifies problems, troubleshoots and provides advice to assist users with campus hardware and software systems (computer, email, phone, Banner, etc.).
  • Performs cable installation, minor network troubleshooting and connectivity repairs.
  • Responds to inquiries and requests for assistance with the college’s computer systems.
  • Performs basic diagnostic testing and contacts vendor for warranty repairs.
  • Notifies proper agencies of any equipment movements to assist with inventory control.
  • Coordinates with IT Director or Analyst to resolve problems if necessary.
  • Maintains campus systems with appropriate software updates (workstations, phone system, etc.).
  • All other duties assigned by the IT Director.

Education and Qualifications

  • Associate degree in computer science or other related technology field.
  • 2 years' experience in hardware/software troubleshooting of Windows and based systems and other related devices.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Must be highly motivated and self-directed.
  • Must possess strong language, communication and customer service skills.
  • Must have technical experience with Microsoft Windows operating systems.
  • Must have base knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Must be able to work well in a team environment.
  • Must have basic knowledge of networking systems and devices (Ex: DNS, DHCP, Subnets)
  • Must have experience in the deployment and troubleshooting of audio/video equipment. (Ex. Projectors, Microphones)
  • Must possess the ability to troubleshoot technical issues of any type.
  • Must be able to adapt quickly to an ever-changing environment.
  • Must be able to perform basic networking (Ex: run and tip cabling, identify bad or faulty ports, etc.)

Physical Demands: When Applicable

  • Ability to work in excess of 40 hours a week, which may include nights and weekends.
  • Ability to view a computer screen for long periods of time.
  • Ability to function in a high-pressure, stressful environment and meet stringent deadlines.
  • Ability to operate a computer and standard office equipment.
  • Ability to carry <25 lbs., stand, sit, reach, bend, climb, reach and push/pull.
