Position: Risk & Safety Manager

Position Summary
Nunez Community College is seeking a Risk and Safety Manager responsible for the efficient and safe operation of all campus facilities, ensuring regulatory compliance and proactive risk mitigation. This position leads campus-wide initiatives to maintain a safe, secure, and compliant environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. The role oversees risk management, property control, safety compliance, emergency preparedness, and disaster recovery operations, and requires strategic coordination with internal and external stakeholders, regulatory oversight, and leadership in emergency response and institutional resilience planning.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

This position ensures the safety, security, and regulatory compliance of Nunez Community College operations. Essential duties include:

  • Develop, implement, and monitor comprehensive risk management plans to identify, assess, and mitigate risks across all campus operations.
  • Conduct routine inspections of facilities to ensure safe working and learning environments and compliance with applicable safety standards.
  • Serve as chair of the campus safety committee and lead safety initiatives, including emergency and safety drills.
  • Ensure employee compliance with all required safety and Office of Risk Management (ORM) training programs.
  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local safety regulations, including OSHA standards and accessibility requirements.
  • Serve as Property Manager for the college, overseeing inventory tracking, audits, and reporting of all physical assets. Ensure accurate and timely data entry into the Louisiana Property Assistance Agency (LPAA) system and reconcile records in collaboration with Business Affairs.
  • Manage campus security operations, including staff scheduling, procedures, and performance oversight.
  • Document all incidents and accidents involving employees, students, and visitors, ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
  • Prepare and maintain detailed documentation for insurance and liability claims, including ORM and Sedgwick submissions.
  • Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of emergency preparedness and disaster recovery plans.
  • Coordinate emergency management efforts with internal departments and external agencies to ensure readiness and effective response.
  • Ensure all emergency response, safety, and security plans comply with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Conduct drills and simulation exercises to evaluate and enhance the effectiveness of emergency and disaster recovery procedures.
  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive documentation to support ORM, Sedgwick, FEMA, and ICF claims and reimbursement processes.
  • Ensure overall campus safety and security through proactive leadership and planning.
  • Serve as the lead for initial disaster response and recovery efforts, providing direction and coordination during emergencies.
  • Responsible for LCTCS, LPAA, ORM, FEMA, GOSEP, and Clery Act reporting and audits.
  • Participate in inspections, campus walkthroughs, and official meetings related to safety, security, and compliance.
  • Develop, implement, and update policies and procedures related to risk management, safety, and emergency operations.
  • Maintain availability for after-hours and weekend emergencies, alarms, and urgent situations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or related operational/science field.
  • Eight (8) years of experience in a safety role with a minimum of
  • Five (5) years in management or leadership capacity.
  • Combination of experience and training: Twelve (12) years of project management, risk and safety, or facilities management experience may substitute for degree requirement.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or related operational/science field.
  • Certifications such as Certified Facility Manager (CFM) or Facility Management Professional (FMP).
  • Fifteen (15) years of experience in an operational role with a minimum of 8 years in management or leadership capacity.
  • Familiarity with LPAA system, Banner/LOLA, LouisianaPA portal, FEMA Grants Portal.
