Position: Senior Systems Administrator
Department: Information Technology
Reports to: Director of Information Technology

Description / Summary:
The Senior System Administrator (SSA) is responsible for effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware and software and related infrastructure. This individual participates in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the infrastructure. This individual ensures that system hardware, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures adhere to organizational values, enabling staff and customers.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Engineering of SA-related solutions for various projects and operational needs.
  • Install new switching, routing, Wi-Fi, and other network cybersecurity hardware/software in accordance with standards.
  • Install and configure systems such as line of business applications or infrastructure management applications.
  • Develop and maintain installation and configuration procedures.
  • Contribute to and maintain system standards.
  • Research and recommend innovative, and where possible automated approaches for system administration tasks. Identify approaches that leverage our resources and provide economies of scale.
  • Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, network resources, systems, and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs.
  • Perform regular security monitoring to identify any possible intrusions.
  • Perform regular file archival and purge, as necessary.
  • Create, change, and delete user accounts per request.
  • Provide Tier III/other support per request from various constituencies. Investigate and troubleshoot issues.
  • Repair and recover from hardware or software failures. Coordinate and communicate with impacted constituencies.
  • Apply application and OS patches and upgrades on a regular basis, as well as upgrade administrative tools and utilities. Configure / add new services, as necessary.
  • Upgrade and configure system software that supports IT infrastructure applications or line of business applications per project or operational needs.
  • Maintain operation, configuration, or other procedures. Perform periodic performance reporting to support capacity planning.
  • Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required. Configure CPU, memory, and disk partitions as required.
  • Maintain data center environmental and monitoring equipment. Ensure server and infrastructure security through use of security audit tools and timely remediation of identified issues
  • Provide website administration for the college's website and intranet site in accordance with applicable standards, including ADA (WCAG 2.0) compliance standards. Advanced support of all online forms (i.e., JotForms, Google Forms, Microsoft Forms, and Adobe Sign Forms.) and the online college catalog.
  • Maintain college's IT life cycle plan, including both hardware life cycle, and software licensing renewals.
  • Coordinate and maintain the college's annual IT budgetary needs including the IT general fund, SGA Technology Fund, and Carl Perkins IT hardware/software budget.
  • Maintain both vendor sales and support contact information in regard to both purchasing new / repairing current hardware, software, and infrastructure.

Other Duties Assigned by Director of Information technology or Chancellor Required Education / Experience:

  • Associate degree (Computer Science or related field)
  • Certification/Licenses Required: CCNA or equivalent
  • 8 years experience working with networking equipment.
  • 8 years experience working with Google Enterprise Suite
  • 8 years experience in troubleshooting coding issues
  • 8 years experience in troubleshooting of window- based hardware, software, and connected devices

Required Skills / Knowledge / Abilities:

  • Must have organization managerial and accounting skills
  • Must possess strong language, communication, and customer service skills
  • Must have technical experience with Microsoft Windows operating systems
  • Must have advanced knowledge of switching, routing, and configuring subnets
  • Must be able to work well in a team environment
