Summer Career Exploration: June 3rd to the 27th

The monthlong camp introduces high school-age students to various career paths through a mix of hands-on learning on the Nunez campus, field trips to local industries and visits from local industry leaders.

Nunez Community College in Chalmette is offering high school students the chance to experience their career options on a whole new level.

The Summer Career Exploration program, which returns for its second year this June, takes high school students inside the world of work by letting them try out heavy equipment, visit industrial facilities, and hear from industry experts who may one day be colleagues.

“This is an awesome program! My son JJ completed this last year and gained insight into careers and educational opportunities available. He enjoyed the program and now knows what he wants to go to school for. I encourage you to sign your incoming 9th or 10th grader up,” said Sandy Lloyd of New Orleans, whose son participated in the inaugural Summer Career Exploration last year ahead of his sophomore year in high school. “This program benefited JJ so much and I think every teenager should take it!”

The summer camp-style program spans June 3-June 27, with students attending from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

Registration is free thanks to a Carl D. Perkins grant, and parents can sign their kids up today at Nunez.edu.

Summer Career Exploration is aimed at all high school-age students, but first preference will be given to incoming ninth and tenth graders.
