Six students representing four student organizations from Nunez Community College picked up some pointers on leadership during the Louisiana Community and Technical College System’s (LCTCS) Student Leadership Summit April 12 in Baton Rouge.

Nunez Student Success Coach Megan Trainor, who accompanied the students to the summit, said the students received valuable mentorship and guidance in sessions on Purpose-Driven Event Planning, Job Readiness, Campus Climate and Power-Based Violence, and Recruiting.

“Our students heard a lot of advice that they can directly apply on the Nunez campus. Leaders tend to get involved in student life, so we look to the students who represent our various clubs and organizations, especially the officers from those organizations, to step up when it comes to impacting positive change on campus,” said Trainor.

Nunez Student Government President John Tsai, who is enrolled in Nunez’s Aerospace Manufacturing Technology program, said the sessions at the Leadership Summit, which were led by staff from LCTCS and several Louisiana community colleges, provided a diverse range of perspectives and best practices on the topic of student leadership.

“My term as SGA President ends this semester, but I’m certainly glad I got the chance to attend the summit,” said Tsai. “Not every topic will be directly applicable in the next step in my education and career, but they provided a well-rounded look at how a leader acts in any given situation. And that broader view of leadership will come in handy at every level.”

Registration is currently open for the Summer 2024 and Fall 2024 semesters at Nunez.edu. For assistance applying or registering, students can visit Nunez.edu/advising to contact the college’s Student Success Team.
