Position: Phlebotomy Instructor (Adjunct)
Department: Nursing and Allied Health
Reports to: Dean of Nursing and Allied Health

Position Summary
The Part-Time Phlebotomy Instructor is responsible for planning, delivering, and supporting high-quality instruction in the Phlebotomy component of the Patient Care Technician program. This position involves teaching in both classroom and laboratory settings, contributing to curriculum development, and participating in assessment activities. The instructor plays a key role in preparing students for entry-level employment in healthcare by fostering a supportive, engaging learning environment aligned with Nunez Community College’s mission and values.

Minimum Qualifications

Required Education/Certification/Licensure:

  • Technical Certificate or Diploma in Phlebotomy.
  • Must hold a current certification or licensure as a Phlebotomist in the State of Louisiana.

Required Experience:

  • At least three (3) years of experience in the phlebotomy or allied health field.
  • At least one (1) year of teaching or training experience in a hospital, clinical, or educational setting.

Substitution:  A National Registry Paramedic with five (5) years of experience may substitute for the required education and certifications.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • In-depth knowledge of phlebotomy procedures and ability to teach them effectively.
  • Effective classroom management skills and ability to foster a positive learning environment.
  • Strong records management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate with program and administrative staff.
  • Commitment to institutional values and goals.
  • Positive attitude, patience, enthusiasm, and strong follow-through.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision, good follow-up.
  • Demonstrated organizational and time management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Education:

  • Associate degree or higher in a healthcare-related field.
  • Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or higher.
  • Med Lab Tech.

Preferred Experience:

  • Higher education teaching experience.
  • Experience developing diverse instructional techniques and assessment methods.
  • Experience with healthcare-related instructional software or simulation labs.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Familiarity with curriculum development and accreditation standards for allied health programs.
  • Ability to integrate technology into curriculum delivery.
  • Flexibility to teach evening courses.
  • Demonstrated ability to build partnerships with healthcare organizations and advisory boards.
