Chief Operating Officer

CLASSIFICATION: Exempt

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Chancellor

Overview:
The Chief Operating Officer (COO), reporting to the Chancellor, will have responsibility for the effective leadership and administration of the major operational areas of the College as well as recommending and implementing policy. Direct reporting lines include human resources, communications, information technology, compliance and policy, facilities, and security.  As a small institution the COO must be able to move seamlessly between broad leadership and hands-on engagement in the work of the College.

Professional Qualifications:
Demonstrated experience in each of the areas of responsibility whether achieved in higher education or through work in non-profit or for-profit organizations.
Creativity and flexibility and the ability to stimulate innovative thinking among a diverse community of staff and students.

The Successful Candidate Will Have:

  • Advanced analytical and systems thinking skills.
  • Prior successful experience leading, supervising, and mentoring professional managers.
  • Exceptional skills in communications and interpersonal relations.

  • Understanding of federal and state laws that govern higher education and reporting requirements.

Specific Duties Include:

  • Membership on the Chancellor's Cabinet
  • Supporting the Chancellor in strategic analysis and planning, including advising the Chancellor on the operational and fiscal impact of planning alternatives.
  • Providing oversight and stewardship of fiscal, human, and facilities resources.
  • Designing and implementing procedures which result in timely and accurate reporting.
  • Evaluation of and strategic advice on the impact of the introduction of new programs/operational strategies.
  • Oversight of crisis communications and critical external branding.
  • Represent the Chancellor at community and college affairs and with external organizations as appropriate.
  • Perform other related duties as requested by the Chancellor.

Candidates will have a bachelor's degree and ten or more years of professional experience. Master's degree preferred.
