Position: Construction Technology Instructor
Division: CTE
Reports To: Program Chair

Position Summary
The Construction Technology Instructor is responsible for teaching courses in Carpentry, Construction Safety, and Construction Technology. The instructor supports student learning through effective instruction and participates in curriculum development, program assessment, and student advisement. This is a nine-month faculty position.

The instructor will teach a minimum of 15 teaching load equivalents per semester, with primary responsibilities including off-site dual-enrollment instruction at locations within 20 miles of Nunez Community College’s main campus in Chalmette, Louisiana. Evening or night courses on campus may also be required during the fall and spring semesters.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide instruction in face-to-face and online courses while fostering and maintaining a positive learning environment.
  • Plan and prepare high-quality instruction, including organizing lectures and assignments, holding office hours, and grading student work.
  • Promote student learning, development, and workplace readiness through effective instruction, mentoring, and advising activities.
  • Assist the Program Chair with scheduling Construction Technology courses and maintaining organization and safety within shop areas.
  • Participate in assessment activities at the program, departmental, and college levels to support continuous improvement and special projects.
  • Serve on academic committees as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Chair, Vice Chancellor, or Chancellor.

Required Education

  • Technical Diploma, Associate’s degree, or higher in Construction Technology or a closely related field.
  • Substitution: At least three (3) years as a Master Carpenter or completion of a recognized apprenticeship program can be substituted for diploma/degree requirement and subject to approval by the Program Chair and the Dean of Instruction.

Required Experience

  • A minimum of four (4) years of professional experience working as a carpenter in the construction industry.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs)

  • Extensive knowledge of carpentry, construction technology, and construction safety practices.
  • Ability to effectively teach construction-related courses in both face-to-face and online learning environments.
  • Strong classroom and lab/shop management skills, including maintaining a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment.
  • Knowledge of industry standards, building codes, tools, materials, and workplace safety regulations related to construction trades.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and assess instructional materials, including lectures, labs, assignments, and evaluations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain technical concepts to diverse student populations.
  • Ability to mentor and advise students in support of academic success and workforce readiness.
  • Ability to use instructional technology, learning management systems, and basic computer applications to support instruction and recordkeeping.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, administrators, and external partners.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the mission, values, and goals of the community college system.

Preferred Education and Certifications

  • Registered Apprenticeship.
  • Contractor’s License.

Preferred Experience

  • Prior teaching experience at the community college level.
  • Professional experience as a general contractor.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs)

  • Demonstrated ability to cultivate partnerships with industry members and advisory committees related to the program.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement a variety of effective teaching techniques and assessment methods.
  • Ability to incorporate instructional technology into curriculum delivery.
  • Ability to teach evening classes.
