Position: Student Success Coordinator
Division: Education, Training and Student Success
Reports To: Dean of Strategic Enrollment Management and Student Success
Position Summary
The Student Success Coordinator will oversee Nunez Community College’s Student Success Center and its functions including tutoring services, educational workshops, advising and career exploration. The Student Success Coordinator will serve as the College’s lead Academic Advisor and work with the Registrar’s Office to update Degree Works to reflect the College’s curriculum requirements. This position reports to the Dean of Strategic Enrollment Management and Student Success.
Education and Experience
Required
- Earned Bachelor’s Degree.
- Knowledge of current theories and best practices in higher education, academic advising, retention, and student development theory.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in higher education with progressively responsible administrative experience.
- Experience with student information systems, databases, or student success software.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion and use diplomacy when interacting with all levels of personnel, including following FERPA guidelines.
- Experience with National Student Clearinghouse.
- Must be proficient in database management software applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, electronic communication, Cognos reporting tool, and other computer processes.
- Must be able to organize and prioritize projects and programs to meet deadlines, have the ability to work independently, be able to prepare official documents, and have strong articulation and people skills.
- Familiar with educational based research, assessment models and tools, and higher education federal reporting requirements.
Preferred
- Master’s degree is preferred.
- Experience using Degree Works software.
- Experience working with a diverse faculty, staff and student body and an ability to promote a campus climate that supports Nunez’s values and encourages equity and inclusion.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Serve as lead academic advisor.
- Work closely with Student Affairs staff and faculty to advise students (e.g., evaluates transcripts; develop plans of study, etc.)
- Collaborate with the Registrar’s Office to update Degree Works to reflect program curriculum requirements.
- Oversee and participate in academic and student support services provided by the Student Success Center and ensure tools and programming are sufficient to provide services to Nunez’s diverse student population.
- Lead efforts to increase retention (student success), reduce attrition, and strengthen educational support services.
- Provide support to students in career exploration, readiness, and placement.
- Coordinate career services support to advisees by helping to formulate job search strategies, reviewing resumes, coaching on interviews, and matching candidates with appropriate job opportunities.
- Provide academic advising to students, individually or in groups, about College policies, programs of study, degree options and transfer opportunities. Provide students with information about academic decisions.
- Establish and maintain relationships with Deans/Department Chairs/Program Managers and faculty to understand and clarify departmental expectations.
- Maintain current knowledge of all Nunez Community College education opportunities including, associate and technical degrees, certificate programs, workforce training, and continuing education.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion and use diplomacy when interacting with all levels of personnel.
- Ability to manage time effectively, prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
- Follows FERPA guidelines.
- Experience with multiple survey tools and analysis.
- Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills, time management skills, and the ability to meet deadlines.
- Proficient in research, and data analysis.
- Experience with National Student Clearinghouse.
- Ability to communicate information in numerical, graphic, dashboards, and narrative form.
- Must be proficient in database management software applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, electronic communication, Cognos reporting tool, and other computer processes.
- Must be able to organize and prioritize projects and programs, have the ability to work independently, be able to prepare official documents, and have strong articulation and people skills.
- Good analytical and strong organizational skills, detail oriented, and ability to relate to a variety of individuals.
- Familiar with educational based research, assessment models and tools, and higher education federal reporting requirements.
