Position: Youth Mentor for Summer College and Career Exploration Academy

Position Summary
This person will assist mentors with guiding students through the Summer College and Career Readiness Academy. This program will host up to 30 Career Exploration students during the six-week summer program. The youth mentor will also attend off-campus field trips with students. The program runs Monday through Thursday, 8:30 AM to 3:00 PM, June 1 through July 9, 2025. Youth mentor hours are 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM.

Duties and Responsibilities
This program will introduce the participants to our various education/training programs at Nunez Community College. The goal is for them to decide on a career path and possibly register for dual enrollment at their High School or Nunez Community College.

  • Assist mentors with implementation and coordination of the prepared program and schedule.
  • Assist mentors with any necessary changes to the program as conflicts arise.
  • Assist mentors with moderating discussions and keeping order during discussions.
  • Lead occasional activities and discussions.
  • Guide incoming participants by sharing personal experiences in the summer academy, highlighting the benefits.
  • Certify or recertify in CPR.
  • Assist with lunch preparations for students and assist program manager with food setup when necessary.
  • Meet with the Summer College and Career Readiness Academy Team at least twice a week.
  • Clean the meeting space at the end of each day.

Minimum Qualifications

Required Education and Experience

  • High school senior or recent graduate.
  • Must have successfully completed the Summer College and Career Readiness Academy.
  • Experience working with youth in educational or recreational programs such as youth programs, summer camps, or sports teams.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

  • Must be a team player, have experience with conflict resolution, be able to self-manage, have strong time management skills, and excellent communication skills.
  • Must be able to work with students one-on-one and in small groups, be open to training and skills development, and have a clear understanding of the mission and vision of the Summer.

Preferred

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education or Summer Camp Counseling.
  • Two years of teaching or summer camp counseling experience working with grades 8–12.
