Credit for Prior Learning
Many of our workforce training courses lead to industry-based certifications (IBCs). If you later choose to continue your education in a related college program, you can earn college credit for your prior learning so you don’t have to retake the same course.
How It Works
Workforce Training and IBCs: Skills you earn in workforce courses that lead to certifications can be evaluated and converted into college credit if you pursue a similar degree, diploma, or certificate.
Work Experience: Relevant work experience may also be eligible for college credit.
Credit is reviewed by Nunez to ensure it aligns with college-level learning and program requirements.
Note: Credit for prior learning can help shorten your path to a degree, diploma, or certificate, but it does not affect your GPA.
Who Can Apply
Must be enrolled in a program at Nunez
Must be in good standing at the college
Must request credit before the midpoint of the semester
How to Request Credit
- Talk with your program coordinator or staff to see if your workforce training, IBCs, or work experience qualify.
- Submit documentation, such as:
- Certificate of completion from a workforce course
- Industry-based certifications
- Resume or employment records
- Nunez will review your request and award credit if it meets program requirements and aligns with a similar college program.
Note: To satisfy residency requirements, students must earn 25% of the total credit hours required for a degree, diploma, or certificate through standard instruction at Nunez Community College. Prior learning assessment credit does not satisfy residency requirements.
