Position: Adjunct Instructor of Custodial and Environmental Services

Position Summary
Nunez Community College is launching a new workforce training program aimed at preparing students for careers as Certified Custodial Technicians/Environmental Services Specialists. We are seeking a compassionate, patient, and experienced part-time Instructor to lead in-person instruction that reflects industry-standard practices in custodial and environmental services—particularly within institutional and healthcare settings.
This instructor will play a central role in helping students build a strong foundation in key areas such as infection control, safety standards, environmental hygiene, and effective cleaning and disinfecting procedures. The program combines classroom learning with hands-on training, offering students practical experience that positions them for immediate employment opportunities in the cleaning and facilities maintenance industry.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in custodial and environmental services, a working knowledge of industry regulations and best practices, and a deep commitment to inclusive education—especially in supporting students with neurological differences or diverse learning needs
Duties and Responsibilities
- Teach custodial safety, chemical handling, equipment operation, and best practices aligned with CMI Custodial Technician Certification (Basic & Advanced levels).
- Demonstrate and supervise hands-on skill practice in classrooms, labs, and campus facilities.
- Promote workplace readiness, emphasizing both technical skills and soft skills like punctuality, communication, and teamwork.
- Adapt teaching methods and materials to meet individual learning needs.
- Foster a positive and respectful learning environment that promotes student participation, independence, and self-confidence.
- Monitor student progress, provide feedback, and offer additional support as needed.
- Collaborate with support staff, case managers, and program leadership to ensure student success and program alignment.
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, progress, and assessments.
- Other duties as assigned by the Dean of Instruction or Vice Chancellor for Education, Training, and Student Success.
Minimum Qualifications
Required Education
- Associate degree or higher in Facilities Management, Industrial Technology, Special Education, or related field.
- Active Cleaning Management Institute (CMI) certification or a willingness to complete CMI Train-the-Trainer certification funded by the College.
Preferred Qualifications
Education/Licensure
- Current CMI Custodial Technician or ISSA/OSHA certifications.
Experience
- Three (3) years of professional custodial, environmental-services, or facilities maintenance experience.
- Experience training, mentoring, or supervising others in a custodial or maintenance setting
