Position:  Dean of Academic Affairs

Position Location:  Education, Training, and Student Success

Immediate Supervisor:  Vice Chancellor for Education, Training, and Student Success

The Dean of Academic Affairs provides innovative vision and leadership for academic affairs while cultivating a caring learning environment centered on student success; plan, organize, administer and evaluate programs, projects, and activities of the division; supervise and evaluate faculty and staff; foster continuous development of faculty and staff; represent divisional faculty at administrative level and communicate administrative policy to faculty and staff. The Dean may have limited teaching duties. This will be a twelve month exempt position, which carries academic rank.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Earned Master’s Degree.
  • A thorough understanding and commitment to the mission and values of Nunez Community College.
  • Competence in oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated problem solving and critical thinking skills.
  • A distinguished record of teaching, preferably in higher education.

Preferred:

  • At least five years teaching experience in higher education.
  • Earned doctorate degree.
  • Experience with data analysis and knowledge of effective program assessment practices.
  • Proven administrative and fiscal management experience in higher education.
  • Experience working with a diverse faculty, staff and student body and an ability to promote a campus climate that supports Nunez’s values and encourages equity and inclusion.
  • Demonstrated experience in curriculum development, pedagogy, student learning outcomes assessment, distance learning, universal design, honors, integrated learning, use of technology in instruction and institutional research data.

Responsibilities:

  1. Program Development
    • Develops and implements long-range divisional programs, courses, plans, goals, and policies including the formulation of instructional objectives and curricular revisions.
    • Works with other Deans and department heads in developing and coordinating programs of study, curricula offerings, and institutional policies and objectives.
    • Works with Dean of Strategic Enrollment and Student Success to develop clear advising processes and course sequencing for students.
    • Recommends innovative learning resources.
    • Coordinates preparation and periodic revision of master syllabi.
    • Responsible for course offerings and coordinates teaching assignment.
  2. Faculty Development
    • Conducts regular meetings with Academic Affairs to apprise the faculty of institutional plans activities, and expectations.
    • Actively recruits qualified full-time and adjunct faculty.
    • Orients new faculty and adjunct.
    • Evaluates teaching faculty.
    • Fosters professional development of faculty.
    • Participates on committees that recommend qualified and deserving faculty for promotion and tenure.
  3. Outreach Activities
    • Initiates and maintains relationships with leaders in private and public sectors to determine needs for new courses or support programs for surrounding high schools, colleges and universities.
    • Cooperates with area colleges and universities to promote transfer of credits through articulation agreements.
    • Develops and coordinates advisory committees via program managers.
  4. Administration – General
    • Chairs the Academic Calendar Committee and is responsible for ensuring academic calendar is published in a timely manner.
    • Serves on Academic Council, Academic Appeals Committee.
    • Serves on appropriate faculty and administrative committees.
    • Supervises and evaluates staff.
    • Coordinates faculty contracts.
    • Leads faculty’s engagement in college registration efforts.
    • Maintains current knowledge of program rules and regulations and communicates changes to faculty and staff.
    • Organizes and chairs divisional meeting, leads workshops, facilities group discussions and involves faculty and staff in idea generation, goal setting and decision making.
    • Initiates divisional budget requests and coordinates the execution of approved budget.
    • Manages divisional facilities and equipment, including maintenance and control of inventory.
    • Key member of the College’s Enrollment Management Team and implements strategies to support enrollment management priorities.
    • Assumes special responsibilities on assignment from the Vice Chancellor for Education, Training and Student Success, or Chancellor.

Supervision:

The Dean of Academic Affairs will directly supervise program managers, chairs, and faculty for Arts and Sciences, and Business and Technology, and will have oversight of all reports to direct reports.
