Position: EMS Education Instructor/Program Manager
Department: EMS Education
Reports To: Dean of Nursing and Allied Health
Position Summary
Responsible for the coordination of the EMT programs as per the guidelines of the Louisiana Bureau of Emergency Medical Services and CAAHEP guidelines for the educational program manager/director. This is in effect a faculty program manager position to which additional administrative responsibilities have been added. This position oversees all courses and programs offered through the EMS Education Department as well as special credit and non-credit courses offered to the community such as annual refresher, CPR, ACLS, PALS and PHTLS.
Education and Experience
Required:
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree to direct a Paramedic program and a minimum of an Associate’s degree to direct an Advanced Emergency Medical Technician program, from an accredited institution of higher education.
- Have appropriate medical or allied health education, training, and experience,
- Be knowledgeable about methods of instruction, testing and evaluation of students,
- Have field experience in the delivery of out-of-hospital emergency care,
- Have academic training and preparation related to emergency medical services at least equivalent to that of a paramedic,
- Be knowledgeable about the current versions of the National EMS Scope of Practice and National EMS Education Standards, and about evidenced-informed clinical practice.
Preferred:
- Master's Degree
- American Heart Association Instructor in ACLS, BLS, and PALS.
- National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians Instructor in Pre-hospital Trauma Life Support.
- Licensed by the state of Louisiana as an EMS instructor.
- Previous experience in higher education.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Administer, organize, and supervise the educational program.
- Continuous quality review and improvement of the educational program.
- Long range planning and ongoing development of the program.
- Ensure effectiveness of the program, including instruction and faculty, with systems in place to demonstrate the effectiveness of the program.
- Cooperative involvement with the medical director.
- Orientation/training and supervision of clinical and field internship preceptors.
- Maintain effectiveness and quality of fulfillment of responsibilities delegated to another qualified individual.
- Fulfill responsibilities as a faculty member.
- Other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands: When Applicable
- Ability to work in excess of 40 hours a week, which may include nights and weekends.
- Ability to view a computer screen for long periods of time.
- Ability to function in a high-pressure, stressful environment and meet stringent deadlines.
- Ability to operate a computer and standard office equipment.
- Ability to carry <25 lbs., stand, sit, reach, bend, climb.
