Position: Heavy Equipment/Construction Instructor - Adjunct
Department: Workforce Development
Reports To: Director of Workforce Development

Position Summary
The Heavy Equipment/Construction Instructor will be responsible for teaching students heavy equipment operations and construction. Skilled in the operation of a bulldozer, excavator and skid-steer, the Heavy Equipment/Construction Instructor will train individuals on the safety and operation of this equipment as it relates to the heavy construction industry.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare lessons designed to teach students the safety, tools and techniques needed in the heavy construction field.
  • Be able to teach students how to operate a bulldozer, excavator and skid-steer.
  • Be able to teach students the safety and techniques needed heavy construction industry.
  • Be able to assess students’ progress in the development of knowledge and skills.
  • Keep accurate records of attendance and assessments.
  • Comply with all requirements of the NCCER curriculum for certification.
  • Be able to teach at night and on weekends.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Journeyman level in heavy equipment/construction.

Preferred Qualifications

  • NCCER Certified Instructor in Heavy Construction.
  • 5 years of experience with references.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to operate a bulldozer, excavator and skid-steer.
  • Ability to teach others how to operate safety use and operate a bulldozer, excavator and skid- steer.
  • Ability to teach others the knowledge needed to pass the NCCER assessments in heavy construction to obtain certification.
  • Must have good oral and written communication skills.

Physical Demands: When Applicable

  • Ability to work in excess of 40 hours a week, which may include nights and weekends.
  • Ability to operate a computer and standard office equipment.
  • Ability to carry <25 lbs., stand, sit, reach, bend, climb, reach and push/pull
